Skill development training program on E-waste segregation and dismantling – NIELIT Gangtok

Implementation of theĀ E-Waste (Management) Rules-2016 necessitates adequate training for the stakeholders in the electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) industries for proper compliance. It is imperative to have awareness on the implications of the Rules as well as hands-on training, working knowledge among the stakeholders, who are engaged in the e-waste management ecosystem including manufacturers, dealers, e-retailer, consumers, collection centres, sellers, purchasers, collectors, transporters, storing, refurbishers, dismantlers and recyclers etc. Adequate training and skill set not only help in improving the compliance process in the country, it would also open up employment and entreprenuership opportunities on collection, dismantling and segregation of various e-waste items for effective and value-added recycling as per the E-Waste (Management) Rules-2016.

Considering the importance, Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), Govt. of India has developed a dedicated course material through National Institute of Electronics and IT (NIELIT) Gangtok for developing skill sets on dismantling and segregation of various e-waste or end of life electrical and electronic equipment, listed in Schedule-I of E-Waste Management Rules 2016. The course intends to impart awareness and knowledge for the youths on dismantling and segregation activities as per the guidelines of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in order to generate possible job opportunities/entrepreneurship in e-waste sector, specially considering role of Producers Responsibility Organisations (PROs) in meeting the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) targets.
